On Sunday (10/27), after an early breakfast, we departed by van to Amboseli National Park, arriving at Amboseli Serena Lodge, which looks out over the savannah toward Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. At Amboseli our best view of Mt. Kilimanjaro was at Observation Hill. Getting to the top involved climbing a number of steps. Our leader Judy Anderson endeared herself to me by taking my arm--she could see I was having trouble on my own. After that, she always made sure I had something or someone to hold onto. I was so grateful. Mt Kilimanjaro is said to resemble a pregnant woman lying on her back.

After lunch, we went out (at about 4pm) for our first game drive and saw elephant sometimes with Mt. Kilimanjaro in background. We also saw zebra, wildebeast, a variety of antelope--which I never learned to tell apart—gazelle, buffalo, baboons, ostridge, lion and Cape buffalo.
